Term 1

Why do we live here?

In this enquiry we will be learning about different countries and the reasons people live in different places. We will also be learning about the Ancient Sumer, why they settled in Mesopotamia, and what made them such a successful civilization.

Please talk to your child about your heritage, where you have lived and where you have visited.
Maths and English:

In Maths we will be learning Place Value up to 4 digits (including ordering, comparing and rounding), times tables (recapping year 3) and properties of shape.

If you would like to support your children at home, we would recommend the following websites:

In English we will be recapping grammar learnt in Year 3, with a focus on noun phrases. We will be writing descriptive settings, as well as non-chronological reports, using paragraphs and other features of non-fiction writing, such as headings and labelled diagrams.
Home learning:

Children will be sent home with a 'learn to read' book and a 'read to learn' book. Their learn to read book will be linked to their phonics or reading level and we ask that they read this to an adult at least 3 times in the week. Their 'read to learn' is a book to enjoy with family and friends.

All children will be sent home with spellings related to their phonics or spellings groups.

We ask that children also practice their times tables regularly at home. In June, all year 4 children will sit a Multiplication Tables Check, set by the DFE, in which they will be expected to know their times tables up to 12 x 12.
