Term Dates

These are the general term dates for schools in Swindon Borough Council. Please see our year overview for teacher training day dates.

Times of the school day

School starts at 8:40am and finishes at 3:10pm. The school is open for 32.5 hours per week.

Absence

If your child cannot come to school because they are ill, please phone the school office to let school know. Attendance in school is very important and your child should be in everyday that they are well.

If your child has any symptoms or has tested positive for COVID 19  please follow Government and Public Health Swindon guidance on self-isolating. The usual period for children is 3 days. Please inform the school as soon as possible.

If your child has sickness or diarrhoeia they need to be kept off school for 48 hours after the last episode. This is to prevent it spreading to other children. Infectious illnesses such as chicken pox and measles have different periods where they are contagious. Please call the office if you are not sure – we will do our best to answer your questions!

95% attendance is the school and Department for Education expectation. The school works closely with the Educaton Welfare Officer and reports attendance rates to Swindon Borough Council. If attendance is low, an Education Welfare Officer will contact you. Persistent low attendance can result in the issuing of a Fixed Penalty Notice and ultimately legal proceedings. We work with families to prevent this from happening so if you have difficulty getting your child to school please speak to their teacher or call a member of the team.

There are also many incentives and rewards in place for children, to recognise their good attendance. These include reward afternoons, leaves on the Attendance Tree and raffles at the end of each term and year. Extra playtime is also given for any class that achieves at least 95% for the previous week.
