This year at Oaktree we have used the PSHE scheme Jigsaw. The children and staff have really enjoyed the activities and materials. Jigsaw is a mindful approach to PSHE which integrates personal, social, health and economic education with emphasis on emotional literacy, mental health and SMSC, especially spiritual development. Each class has a soft Jigsaw shaped character to hold as they speak to the class. There is also a relaxation session where the children are taught how to control their feelings and relax. Each year group has different activities so that next year they will build upon what they have learnt this year.
Each term we look at a different aspect of PSHE
- Being Me in My World
- Celebrating Difference
- Healthy Me
- Dreams and Goals
- Changing Me
Our Values are taught each week in Assembly through a variety of methods such as story telling, children acting out scenarios or learning about inspirational person. Where possible these are linked to the termly Jigsaw focus. Each class chooses a child to receive an award in assembly on Friday, this is also often linked to the theme of that weeks assembly.
